Acquire a basic knowledge of the Spanish language through an emphasis on listening and speaking skills. Study vocabulary and acquire a basic understanding of the parts of speech and sentence structure. Learn about the Hispanic culture.

 

Spanish II

Prerequisite: Spanish I

Continue your emphasis on listening and speaking skills with the addition of reading and writing. Study grammatical structure and major verb tenses, along with essential sentence structure necessary to use Spanish in everyday life. Continue vocabulary building and Spanish cultural activities

 

Spanish III

Grade: 11-12

Weight: HN

Prerequisite: Spanish II

Study reading and writing skills and the development of oral proficiency. Learn more complex grammar patterns, as well as Spanish literature.

 

Spanish IV

Prerequisite: Spanish III

Participate in an advanced study of the Spanish language, culture and literature, as well as a preparation for college placement exams.

 

Latin I

Prerequisite: None

Latin I exposes students to the language, culture, and history of the Romans. We especially highlight Roman and Greek religion and mythology. It emphasises comprehension of the Latin language through the reading approach using the Ecce Romani text. The result of the student’s study of Latin I is improved knowledge of both English vocabulary and grammar, an expanded understanding of the relationship of the ancient world to his or her own, and an appreciation of other foreign languages and cultures.

 

Latin I RCS-VA

It emphasises comprehension of the Latin language through the reading approach using the advanced texts of Caesar’s Gallic Wars while preparing them for the advanced texts of Virgil's Aeneid. Latin III concentrates on improved knowledge of complex Latin syntax, grammar, and prose.The result of the student’s study of Latin II is preparation for college placement exams, an expanded understanding of the relationship of the ancient world to his or her own, and an appreciation of other foreign languages and cultures.

 

Latin IV

Prerequisite: Latin III

Latin IV continues to expose students to the language, culture, and history of the Romans. We especially highlight the Age of Augustus and poetry. It emphasises comprehension of the Latin language through the reading approach using the advanced texts of Virgil's Aeneid. Latin IV concentrates on improved knowledge of complex Latin syntax, grammar, and poetry. The result of the student’s study of Latin IV is preparation for college placement exams, an expanded understanding of the relationship of the ancient world to his or her own, and an appreciation of other foreign languages and cultures.
