Important Message for Seniors Week of 4/26/2020 Good Evening Panther Families, this is Ryan Moody, Principal of Morehead High School with an important update for Seniors.
With the recent governor’s executive order to close school buildings for the rest of the 2019-20 school year, Rockingham County High Schools and the district office have developed a plan to honor seniors and have a virtual graduation. To create this special virtual graduation, seniors and their families will need to help our school create the conditions to make a virtual graduation a reality.
First, on Monday, May 18th, seniors and their family should drive to the front traffic circle at MHS for a parade style diploma awarding ceremony. This parade is for one car per family. Seniors will need to be in their cap and gown during this parade. Principals will hand the graduate their diploma cover through the car window to promote social distancing. Also, after seniors receive their diploma cover, we will have a designated area in front of the flagpole at the front entrance of MHS for the graduate to have their picture taken in front of a Morehead High School backdrop. Please note that this picture is for the graduate only, as the family should remain in the car. This will allow us to create a virtual graduation and prevent gatherings banned by the executive order.
Following their picture being taken, we will air a video of each graduates picture along with special speeches by our Senior Class President, Student Body President, and Dr. Moody on June 13th during our regularly scheduled graduation time online.
Following the airing of graduation, all diplomas will be mailed to our graduates. Please make arrangements for your senior to participate in the parade on Monday, May 18th so we can include them in the virtual graduation program being developed. Specific times of this event will be sent out later in the coming weeks due to any weather concerns.
Any senior who has not yet picked up their cap and gown can come tomorrow, Monday, April 27th to pick them up in the front traffic circle by the main doors from 10am - 12pm. Please note that this is a curbside pickup and all balances due to Herff Jones must be paid.
For any questions, please email Ms. Kimberly Thompson Hairston or Dr. Moody.
While we wish that we could have a regular face to face graduation this year, we hope that these plans will work to ensure all of our graduating seniors receive the recognition they deserve.
Thank you for your time, have a great evening and Go Panthers!
